Peeks from My Week!

I don't know about you, but I do love a lazy Sunday afternoon. I thought since I had some time to spare, I'd show you a few projects from the past week. For those of you who said a prayer for my dad's surgery, thank you! The surgery went well and he is doing great!

One afternoon this week, I came home with lots of energy to spare (not typical of a kindergarten teacher) and decided to paint my window trim and sew my curtain.

I have had the fabric for a while now. Some of you may remember me asking your opinion on your favorites. Well, I ended up choosing one that wasn't even in that post. I found this Waverly fabric on fabric.com and fell in love. It is called Charismatic Honeysuckle and features most of the colors I love so much. It has a pale aqua blue/minty green background and pops of orange, peach, cream, lime, khaki, cherry red,  & mustard. I love it!

It's difficult to see the light fixture in the photo above since it is glass. This is the one I chose and I love it!

Tuesday, I spent the majority of the day at the hospital with my mom and sister while we waited for my dad to come out of surgery and recovery and be placed in a room. After he was settled in, I made a quick trip to Hobby Lobby to pick up a couple things. I bought this boxwood sphere and placed it in one of my tureens to add some color to the vignette.

I bought a couple hooks to hang dishtowels or pot holders on. Here is one.

And here is where I had the hubby hang it.

Here's the other. This is the one I went after but I decided to get two and wanted them to be different. This one is ceramic and metal.

Here is where it hangs.

This is the number one reason I went to Hobby Lobby though. I have been wanting one of these double faced clocks for a while. They were on sale 50% off so I had to have it!

Here it is from the dining room.

And here it is from the kitchen side. I love it!!!

Another quick little project was repainting these frames. I have had these hanging in my bathroom for a while and just love them, but I thought they needed some color. They were thrifted of course.

I spent about an hour carefully taping over the gold because I wanted to keep it and just paint the brown. They didn't turn out perfect since the paint leaked in under the tape a little, but I still think they look so much better!

Here's another before and after. I really liked the fabric that was on the chair before, but I wasn't overly happy with it and have been wanting something different for a while. So, since I had a little of the Waverly fabric left over from the kitchen curtain, I decided to recover it. I really like the big, bold flowers and the green was perfect!

Here is where the chair "lives". It usually holds my purse and anything I bring home from work. It sits by the front door in my "entry". I know I have a lot of color going on here. Do you think it looks OK?

I used my little wire basket to hold a clear vase and some branches from my Sparkle Berry tree.

I think it looks pretty.

Last project share...I know this post was long!
I used a piece of the Waverly fabric to recover one of my sofa pillows. I wanted something brighter than the dark ones that matched the sofa. I wanted to make two, but didn't have enough fabric. That's why I  used it to recover the chair instead.

I had one very small piece left and I decided to put it in a hoop. I love hoop art!
I also printed a new piece of "art" for the clipboard. This scripture is perfect for me lately.

Well, if you're still reading, you made it! I appreciate your taking time out of your day to catch up with me and my life. This week is Teacher Appreciation week and my boss is providing lunch for us tomorrow and then letting us leave and go out to lunch Tuesday, and she's paying for our lunch! I have an awesome boss. We normally only get to leave for lunch on days when the students aren't there, so this is a treat! I am off work Friday because my daughter and I have a weekend get away planned! I bought her Beauty and the Beast theater tickets for Christmas and this upcoming weekend is when it is playing. We are both so excited to get away for a couple days. I'll share when I return. I may share a couple things before then if time allows. Hope you have a blessed and beautiful week.

Until next time....

Thrifty Finds & a Colorful Sadie

I've been at it again! I got to do a little thrifting this morning and it was such fun. I try not to go so often these days because I always find too many things I "NEED". LOL! I have learned to be more choosy and not bring so much home. I had a 20% off coupon for this thrift store so I got even better deals. Let me show you what I got. I love this small ironstone bowl/cup. Not actually too sure what it is, but it was super heavy and priced right at $0.99. I paid $0.80 with my discount.

I thought this container was so pretty with the cutwork design in the lid. I got it for $1.80.

A brand new, large makeup bag for around $0.60 had to come home with me. This is something I actually needed.

As were these iPhone 5 cases. I recently upgraded and had not bought a case yet. I got three cases for $0.08 each, yep, $0.26 total! That was a steal...:) I don't like big bulky cases , so these were perfect for me.

These gorgeous, vintage bowls by Steubenville hopped right in my card. They will be so pretty in a tablescape.....if I ever get my table built! I found a set of 4 on Etsy for $35.00. I paid $1.60 for my 4!

This beautiful white afghan had to come home with me. It is not stained anywhere and a nice size. I got it for $1.60.

Two more vintage pillowcases to add to my collection. I think they were $0.40 each.

I picked up a couple things for other people too. My librarian friend at school is decorating a huge Christmas tree in the library this year with brown teddy bears. This little cutie will be perfect. He is a Ty and was $0.25 I think.

My friend Heather is a Mickey Mouse lover and so I couldn't pass up this adorable cardigan for her. It is like new and will be so cute on her with jeans and a pair of boots. It looks red but it's actually a pretty shade of orange. Clothes were 50% off today so this was just $1.50.

When I got home from my day out, I had a package waiting for me. I was expecting it to arrive any day and today was the day. I have been anxiously waiting for it. A month or so ago, I was notified by Suzan at Simply Vintageous....by Suzan, that I had won a colorful pet portrait donated by Cecilia over at The B Farm. I was over the moon excited because I had seen Cecilia's colorful pet portraits of her dogs, Herbie and Buddy and also of Suzan's sweet Soda and knew how adorable they were! I have been wanting one of my Sadie since first seeing them. I was so excited that I won! Well, I finally bribed Sadie with treats to sit and look at the camera so I could take a few shots of her. She doesn't like the camera...lol! I sent several off to Cecilia and told her to choose the one she wanted to paint and she chose this one.....

And this is what she painted!
Isn't it just precious? I am so in love with it. She painted it in the colors I love most...blues, greens, and a pretty coral orange color. It could not be more perfect!

Look at her eyes and her sweet mask above her eyes...:)

Thank you so much Cecilia! I LOVE it and will treasure it always. If you don't know Cecilia or Suzan, hop on over to visit. They are both amazingly talented and sweet, sweet ladies! Cecilia was my partner for my ornament exchange last year and she painted me the most adorable snowman and gingerbread man....my favorite Christmas decor. By the way, if you would like to join in the fun this year, hop on over and read about it here. It's not too late to sign up. It was great fun last year...:)

Anywho, I have already proudly displayed Saide's portrait on my gallery wall. See it there above my couch. It adds a nice pop of color I think. That new throw on the couch is a new purchase from today.

I love the Better Homes & Gardens brand that Wal Mart carries. This is the softest blanket ever...and I love the colors.

I also printed something new for November for the clipboard on my gallery wall. I love that I can change out my "art" so easily.

Well folks, that's it for today. I have been thoroughly enjoying my 3-day weekend. I got some much needed rest yesterday and went shopping with my sister today. I am having a lovely evening as well. My sweet niece Taylor just bought me a yummy bowl of chili for supper. It is cold in Florida tonight...supposed to be in the thirties in the morning and it was inthe fifties all day. It was super windy too..so I froze getting out of my vehicle all day. I am enjoying my toasty new heater tonight though and I'm about to enjoy this delicious chili while I watch a Christmas movie on Hallmark. Don't judge...lol! I love Christmas movies and books and will watch and read several over the next several weeks. Prayers for a blessed and beautiful Sunday.

I'm linking up here....

Until next time.....

Blessings & a Gallery Wall

Is the weekend really over?
It has been such a beautiful weekend, even though it rained half the time. My daughter, Miranda was home for an early birthday celebration and we had such a nice time. Yesterday, we had a yummy Mexican dinner (Miranda's request & prepared by yours truly) at my mom and dad's house. My mother-in-law and her new fella, and my sister and her family were there. Mama made mini cheesecakes with blueberry topping and my sister made Nutter Butter pies. I made pork carnitas, spanish rice, refried beans, chips and queso, and of course fresh guacamole and pico de gallo as toppings for the tacos. It was pretty tasty!

Yesterday evening, Miranda and I went to watch this movie.....

It was excellent! I only wish I had read the book first. We had a nice ride over to watch the movie in my new vehicle. I haven't mentioned it yet, but I got a new (to me) vehicle last Thursday. I was driving a 2001 Ford Expedition and it was beginning to give me a little trouble. I didn't trust it to drive it off very far which isn't good since Miranda lives in Tallahassee....2 hours away. It was also too big for me since my kids are grown up and it was a gas hog! So, my hubby talked me into going to get a new vehicle. I bought a 2014 Chevy Equinox. It was pre-owned, but is like new...even still smells new. I will share a few pictures soon! I am loving it and am blessed to have been able to get it.

Anywho, today, we slept in and then I made a yummy breakfast. We lazed around the house and then went to my sister's house for lunch. We had a fun afternoon playing games and talking. Love times like that! I also finally started hanging things on my gallery wall in the living room. Check it out.....

I know it might not appeal to everyone, but I LOVE it! It represents my family and I very well. I plan to add to it over time, but this is my start. Of course the big H is for our last name....Hunt. The small, silver trivet also has an H engraved on it. The Family is Everything picture in the blue frame was handmade for me by Miranda for Mother's Day. The 2+2=4 vintage flashcard stands for 2 parents, Joey and I, plus our two kids, Miranda and Dakota, equals a family of four. Four is my favorite number for that reason and you can see the large 4 at the bottom of the wall also. I hung a vintage clipboard from my craft room and will change out the quote or scripture on it occasionally...maybe seasonally. The cross is of course for our belief and faith in God.

The coral mirror is just to add a splash of coral to the wall. The speed limit sign is antique. My hubby bought it home for his shop, but I quickly snapped it up for the house. It reminds me of him...he is a slow and steady driver on the road, but loves to race cars on a track...:) I found the Home Is Where the Dog Is sign at TJ Maxx the other day and had to have it. I love that it is aqua blue too! I bought the anchor at Hobby Lobby when I got my cast iron brackets for my shelf. I love anchors! The wooden piece is something I found at the thrift over the summer and thought it was cool. I planned to do something with it, but after I stained it to match our plank wall, I just left it plain. I like it like that.

What do you think? I really love it and look forward to finding meaningful pieces to add to it.

I suppose I should go prepare lesson plans for the week. I am feeling rested and content and ready to tackle a new week with the kinders! I pray you all have a lovely week.
Until next time....

Thrifty Living Room Decor

Hello and how are you on this beautiful day? I am off for spring break this week (one of the perks of being a teacher!) so I am fabulous! Today I am sharing my living room decor....most of which was thrifted! I have enjoyed sprucing up with some of my recent thrifty finds! You can see them here, here, here, here, here, and here! I know....I know, that's a lot of here's, but if you are like me, you might want to see some of the other treasures I found! I love looking at all the great items some of my blog friends find! Sometimes I see something I love and then I look for the same or similar item when I'm out thrifting! Ok....enough talk, let me show you my living room decor.
If you are into the perfectly put together designer look, then you might not want to proceed.....however, if you're into eclectic, mismatched, second-hand treasures, then stick around for the tour!

The first few pictures feature a side table. I love this little vignette.  I think it works well together!
The little plant and white dish are weekend finds! The blue glass bottle was actually a Dollar General find. I thought it was very pretty and I love the color...it was only $2!

Excuse the water stain....my son!
Isn't it so pretty?
Just realized the top book is upside down...lol!

Next up is a side table by my sofa. It is my least favorite right now...I'm still tweaking it. I need to put another lighter colored book under the brown book and I need different greenery.
Hey....it's a work in progress! The book, planter, owl, brass bell, and coaster are all thrifty finds!

I shared this table in a recent post and still love it, so I haven't changed it yet! Everything on the books was thrifted!  This table sits beside my love seat. I plan to replace all my side tables....eventually!

This is my version of a gallery wall behind it. The green mirror started out as a clock....one of my favorite projects ever!

On to my entertainment center. Here is an overall picture! I really want to elevate the tv about 6-8 inches, but have yet to find the perfect thing to use. I love this piece of furniture, but hope to eventually move it to another room and put a faux fireplace in...maybe!

OK....here are some close-ups of the decor on and in the unit.  We'll start with the left side of the unit and go from A to Z! I love my A-Z bookends my parents bought me for one of my college graduations years ago! They have always been a favorite! The A sits atop several classics that my late grandpa gave me. He used to order books from Reader's Digest and give them to me...:) I love these classics...they are so special to me! Beside them sits a pretty aqua blue decanter that I bought from Burlington Coat Factory a few years ago. (before my aqua obsession....maybe this started it!) A little faux greenery completes the vignette.

This is the left side of the center unit. More classics topped with a pretty green thrifted vase site on the far left. My gorgeous candy apple red, favorite scripture plate (a gift from my daughter and another favorite) sits in the center, and a sweet little spring welcome sign sits in front.

Here's the right side of the center unit. The Fleur de lis was a thrifty find as was the basket of greenery and the Thomas Kincade edition bible underneath.

This is the right side unit.....with more classic books, a pretty white ironstone pitcher with a bamboo look handle that was a thrifty find for just $1! The aqua blue ceramic piece in the back was thrifted as well. The Z finishes up this vignette...:)

Now....on to the inside of the side units. I haven't done anything with these since I put all my treasures back in after Christmas. (during Christmas I put my snowman collection in them with fake snow, snowflakes, and snowballs) Anywho, there are three shelves in each one. These first three shelves are the top, middle, and bottom shelf in the right side unit. The top holds books, my daughter's bronzed baby booties, a candle holder with pictures of my daughter from her post high school color guard days, a picture of my granny (where I got my blog name....read about it here), and grandpa (the one who gave me all the books), a picture of my daughter sitting on campus at FSU framed with garnet & gold stones, and a pretty thrifted silver over glass candy dish. I think I gave $1 for it....much less than this one on ETSY!

The second shelf holds my son's bronzed baby booties, more books, a decorative container (gift from my mom) with a picture of my parents on their wedding day, and one of my favorite thrifty finds ever....a vintage bowl with two scenes from Dickens on the sides. At Christmas, I display it with my collection of A Christmas Carol books.

Bottom shelf is lots more books and some souvenirs from out west.

The left side unit top shelf holds a wedding frame with a picture of Joey and I on our wedding day, as well as a smaller frame holding pictures of Joey and I when we were babies...:) The lovebirds usually sit here as well...:) The last thing on this shelf is a candle holder with an etched H for Hunt (a gift from my daughter).

The second shelf holds even more books along with a few NYC and Washington DC mementos from trips with my kiddos!

Bottom shelf holds the rest of my classics along with some other books, a pretty piece of stone from the Smithsonian Museum in DC, a pewter family tree with pics of my kids, and a sweet little wooden box my daughter decorated for me years ago. (note the chewed corner where the dog got  hold of it as a puppy....lol)

Well, that's it....for now! I hope I didn't bore you to tears. The hubs and I do have big plans for this room....when we get the cash to do it! I am just working with what I have for now and am grateful for it! Eventually all my books will go in my little library area, but I have to build more shelves before then as I have run out of room! I only have a few....ahem, several hundred books! I LOVE books....reading them.....looking at them.....the smell of them.....everything about them!
Until next time.....
