Tuesday Tweaks

I can't believe it's already Tuesday evening! I love 4-day work weeks and wish we could have them every week. Today I am sharing a few photos of some other updates around the house. First up is a sweet and simple new table vignette. I used one of the thrifted tablecloths I bought the other day. It is quite worn, with a couple spots on it, but I still really like it. The soft, muted colors are so pretty. I chose to use a silver plated tray this time, along with one of my lemon cypress trees, my February calendar clipped to a book (I still love this look),  and a small white, metal church. Simple and sweet.

 The buffet got a new look as well since Valentine's Day is over. Milk glass, vintage books, and a few other things. 

I love these little plates I found at Michael's over the weekend for $3 each. I got my 15% teacher discount so that made them $2.55 each. They are so cute!

My sister always buys me a bag of Robin Eggs when they start putting out the Easter candy...she knows they're my favorite Easter treat!

I mentioned yesterday that I cleaned up the guest room over my long weekend too. Here are just a few photos. This room is so tiny and it's difficult to get decent shots. I'm standing just outside the doorway here. Some of you may remember this mirror project from last year.

This is from just inside the doorway. The aqua cart in the corner got moved back to my craft room after this was taken. I didn't make any major changes in here, just cleared out the clutter and tweaked the vignettes. I still love the board and batten ceiling the hubby and I created in this room. It gives a lot of bang for the buck!

The headboard was of course thrifted and repainted last year. I finally put the new thrifted spread on the bed. I love it! A vintage ladder leans in the corner to the right. It will eventually find a new home on the porch when it's built.

This is what hangs on the ladder wall.

To the left of the bed is a vintage dresser that belonged to my Granny Valentine. It got a makeover last year as well. I didn't change much here as I still love the way it looks...:)

The window wall is so pretty with the light flooding in and streaming through the colored glass bottles and things in the window.

So pretty...:) I love the cobalt blue bottle with the fat bottom.

The last wall is the closet wall. This closet holds extra blankets and jackets, some luggage and a few other items. I still love the black and white trees and birds curtain from Ikea. I have another panel to use for another project someday!

This sweet little guy sits in his wagon beside the little blue chair. He is old! My Aunt Loretta gave hm to me. She bought him at a yard sale. A lady was going through a divorce and the bear had belonged to her soon to be ex husband. Kind of sad that she didn't just give him back to him...:( Isn't he sweet..:) The chair came from a church I used to attend. They were getting rid of a bunch of them and I wish I had grabbed more, but sadly I only bought this one home. It's in original condition and I will not alter it at all. It's chippy blue and perfect...:) You can see some of the chippiness to the left of the bear.

Plates, Roses, a Little Makeover!

I don't know about you, but I am thankful to see Saturday here at last! I have had such a busy week and am in need of the R & R the weekend brings. I have just a few things to share today from the past few days. 

Earlier in the week, I hung my new plates, but decided not to add them to the plate wall for now. I hung them on a different wall and really like the way they look here.

On the way home from work yesterday, I had to stop and get some groceries and they had bouquets of roses for $4.99! For that price, I had to have some for my dining room table.

Aren't they beautiful...:)

I finally got my bicycle print framed. I redid the frame.,,,it was all white and very plain. I added the green and distressed the white and now I love it! 

It is perfect for the print! And...it is the perfect addition to the guest room.

I also got the chenille spread on the guest room bed in preparation for the weekend...

because this beautiful girl is coming home! 

I haven't seen her in 6 weeks and the rest of the family hasn't seen her in over 2 months! I'm so happy she is coming home for Mother's Day! She should be here in less than an hour...:)

And as soon as she gets here, we have to dash out the door for a family reunion! Looking forward to seeing my sweet cousin from Canada and her family. Prayers for a lovely weekend and Happy Mother's Day to all you mothers out there.

Random Tidbits...:)

Just a few random tidbits to share with you today. First up is the new curtain panel for the guest room closet. I found a set of two of these at Ikea and knew they were perfect for the room as soon as I spotted them. Only one was needed for the closet, so I still have a full panel left along with enough to make a valance that I cut off this one. I don't know why it looks a little grey in the photo but I assure you, it is white. 

I love the tree trunks, leaves, and especially the sweet little birds...:) 

Perfectly fun and funky for the room!

I took this next photo when I came home from work yesterday. I walked in the kitchen and the way the sun was shining through the window and blue glass bottle was so pretty to me. I love the blue tint on a couple of the plant's leaves. 

Props to my team....the Florida State Seminoles for their National Championship win against Auburn last night in Pasadena, California! They scored the winning touchdown with less than a minute left in the game with a final score of  34-31! I was a bundle of nerves watching the entire game but they pulled it off and I am so happy for them....they truly deserved it! Jameis Winston, FSU's Heisman Tropy winning quarterback couldn't have received a better gift for his birthday yesterday. A perfect end to a perfect season....:)

And the last random tidbit for today is my string of twinkle lights with cupcake liner shades I hung in my craft room! You may remember me sharing them a few months ago. I made them for my classroom and while they looked really cute hanging in there, I never plugged them in. They wouldn't have been as pretty during the day in the classroom anyway, and besides that, the fire marshall might have made me take them down. So, before that happened, I decided to take them down while I was working today and brought them home to my happy place...:)

They sit perfectly along the longest wall and even hang down on each end. I just love the twinkle and glow they give to the room.

Such a dreamy look.....:) I can't wait to get in there and create something soon! I am thinking I need a comfy little chair and ottoman in there so I can sit and read with my lights twinkling.

But...for now, I need to go call all the kitties in for the night since we are supposed to have another hard freeze....ugh! Sadie Lou is already snoozing on the couch, but she is about to get called to her crate so I can hit the hay a little early tonight. I do not care for cold weather and the Florida humidity makes it feel even colder than it is. I know our weather is mild compared to so many...so I'll stop complaining. I know I am blessed to have not only a warm home, but also a bed to sleep on and food to fill my stomach. So many across the world do not.

Touches of Red, Green, and Gold

 Where has this  month gone? It's hard to believe I haven't had time to write a post since the 12th! Life has been a whirlwind for the past week, but I am happy to say it has now calmed down a bit. It was one of the hardest of my life concerning a couple different issues, but God is good and is answering my prayers and all is well for now....so on to the happy news!

My daughter is going to be home either tomorrow night or Tuesday morning and will be here until sometime next weekend, so I thought I would spread some Christmas cheer around the guest room for her to enjoy during her stay. I hope you enjoy taking a peek around too! 

I used the traditional colors of Christmas...red and green as well as gold.

I added several things to the windowsill. I love the vintage elves! I bought these earlier in the year at a thrift store or yard sale....I don't remember. Anywho, I got a great deal on them and discovered that they go for a good price on Etsy, so I put them in my inventory. But...since I have yet to open an Etsy store, I decided to use them this year! That's the great thing about vintage. I can use things until I get tired of them and then sell them for for just as much as I would have originally...:) My favorite elf is the one with the book....my Miranda is a bookworm! 

The basket of vintage bottles is so pretty with the red berries and spray of beads as well as the leaves I spray painted gold.

I love the mosaic candle holder I thrifted a few years ago. I did have it in the living room, but since it is red, green, and gold, I nabbed it to place on the windowsill.

Christmas cheer hangs from the wall rack as well. The Santa's were gifts from my Secret Santa at work..:)

I finally finished the tray I thrifted a few weeks ago. It was country blue with ducks and cats painted on it and wooden handles. The hubby got rid of the wooden handles, I spray painted it gold , and he added the new glass handles for me. It is so pretty now. 

I added a Christmas tree jar, the bell jar, and a pretty cup...all thrifted at some point or another!

Here's an overview of the room. I added white lights to the headboard. It is so pretty at night. You can see the new glass knobs on the top dresser drawer in this photo.

I added red flowers to the wall pocket on the left and I finally got my antique frame hung. For now I just backed it with some of my alphabet burlap and taped my vintage postcards to the front with some craft tape. 

Does it look ok? Please be honest! 

I had nowhere else to display them and thought they looked good in this room, but I'm not so sure this works.

Here's the beautiful detailing on the frame. I am thinking of dry-brushing it white or gold so it will be more noticeable.

I love this pretty gold glittered bottle brush tree I thrifted a couple years ago in Tallahassee. It goes nicely with the color scheme I chose for the room.

Last thing is the sweet Crayola tin I added to the top of Miranda's little stool she has had since she was a baby. It looks perfect with the yellow cover...:)

I hope you enjoyed the tour. I have been busy all day cleaning house, decorating the guest room, and making lists of what I need to pick up tomorrow. I am praying I finish up tomorrow so I don't have to leave my house Christmas Eve until we go to my mom and dad's house for our family Christmas get together. 

I am hoping to be back tomorrow with a post featuring my Christmas tree and some of my favorite ornaments, but in case I don't have time, I pray each of you have a blessed and beautiful Christmas.
