Two bags Full!

As promised, I am back to share the items I bought when I bought my new vanity last weekend. You might remember me mentioning that this sale was a $5 a bag sale and that along with the $5 vanity, I bought two bags of junk treasures as well.

This canvas bin had a price sticker on it, but it was part of the stuff a bag deal as well. I have three more like this one already. They come in handy for lots of things.

I got these four large tassels. The two gold ones are hanging in my bedroom. The ball part of these is bigger than a golf ball.

Still new with tags and look at the original price.

I love this strawberry and stripe patterned runner. It will be pretty with a strawberry themed tablescape this spring or summer.

I didn't need it as I have a large bolt of it already, but it was too easy to shove it in a bag, so I picked up this piece of burlap as well. It's about 2 yards.

This fabric is so pretty. I love red and aqua together. I am not sure what to do with this. It would make a pretty top as it is a sheer, lightweight fabric. Too bad I don't sew clothing.

I got all of the hoops I saw...there are7 or 8 of them in different sizes.

This hammered aluminum ice bucket was made in Italy. I priced them on Etsy and Ebay and they range from $15 up to $30 or more. This will probably be saved to put in the hubby's man cave when we get to it.

This silver plated basket had to come with me. I love these types of baskets.

The rope detail around the edges is pretty. I chose not to polish it up, for now anyway!

She had several pieces of milk glass, but I only chose three that I didn't already have. I love these larger, pedestal style vases to hold greenery and other things around the house. This one is currently holding my kitchen sponge, sink plug, and a small nail brush that is used to scrub things occasionally beside the sink.

This one is really pretty and a decent size for bouquets of fresh flowers.

It's hard to see, but I like the design on this one,

This one was the most unique one I have found though. Isn't it the cutest thing!

Here's the top view.

This little gold claw foot tub was too cute to pass up. It will hold soaps or something in my bathroom after we remodel. It is made of plastic and will paint easily if I decide to change the gold. So cute!

Last thing I found was two vintage tablecloths. They were both well loved, but also easy to shove in a bag , so in they went. This one is gold and white.

This one has a pale aqua blue part in the center and pinks and browns. It is really pretty and will be going on my table after I take the Valentine's vignette down.

I hope you enjoyed looking at all my finds. Not too shabby for $10! I averaged less than $0.50 per piece! If I had more room to store things, I would have bought several more things, but I left lots of good stuff for someone else...:) Hope you have a fabulous Friday. Tomorrow is our Valentine's Day party and the kids are so excited.....the teacher not so much! LOL! I'm just tired and ready for this three day weekend. The hubs and I are about to get all our trim finished and I hope we can start on our kitchen reno soon!

Until next time.....

Vintage Vanity Makeover

Hello friends! It's been a few days since I last posted. I've been having computer issues but I think they are resolved. Anywho, I wanted to share a weekend find with you. The hubby and I got up Saturday morning and went to a couple of yard sales. I have been wanting to change out the nightstands in our room for a vanity on my side and a chest of drawers on his. And, of course, I was in the market for something thrifty!

Well, we didn't find anything good at the first place we stopped. There are normally several vendors set up in the same area, but only 3 or 4 were set up that day. So, we drove through town and spotted another one and pulled in. The lady was selling things for $5 per bag full. I was thrilled since she had some great stuff. I bought two bags full of stuff which I will share soon. I immediately spotted this vanity and asked her how much it was. She said that it looked to her like it would fit in a bag, so $5! I was tickled pink...or should I say green since that's what color it was. Sorry I didn't get a before shot with all the drawers in but we had taken them out to load it and I was too lazy to put them back in for a pic!

Here she is on my old paint table. Lovely shade of green...right?

Even more lovely that the green paint job was the green ivy leaves painted all over it. See it on the drawers! And, this piece was cruddy....I had my work cut out for me.

Some of the hardware was missing, but there was enough of the original handles to put back on the four large drawers. I left out the wide drawer in the middle since it doesn't fit right, and created knobs for the two small drawers. I had two of these glass look knobs left from a previous project. Problem is they wouldn't cover the original holes where the handles had been. Then I remembered these pretty metal pieces I had pulled off an old vintage lampshade before trashing it a couple years ago, I knew I would use them someday. The hubs drilled holes in the center of the metal pieces, along with a hole in the drawer front, and here is how it turned out with the glass knobs. I love them! The original hardware is really pretty too. I gave them all a coat of gold paint to brighten them up a bit.

Here is the after shot. I am not finished with the center space where I left the drawer out. I am thinking about lining it with some pretty gift wrap I have. I am not sure yet though. I had the stool in my craft room that was being used with the vanity turned sewing table last year. I moved it to my room and am using my vintage sewing chair at the sewing table now.

The hubby and I have plans to remodel our room but it is one of the last projects on our list. We will be putting in new flooring, a plank wall, a new light fixture, a sliding barn door, two board and batten walls, and bead board on the fourth wall. Until then, I am updating a bit here and there. I love that the new vanity fit just perfectly in this spot! As for the decor, I already had the large mirror above my old nightstand, but I added two other smaller, circular mirrors. I will look for more as I visit thrift stores and yard sales. I would like to have a couple more small ones. They are all different metallics.

I have had the candle chandelier for years. I bought it at Yankee Candle Company.
I need to put new tea lights in it.

My bedside lamp and a few other items are closest to the bed.

The other end holds my lotions, perfumes and some pretties. Lots of silver and crystal...:)

My Granny Willie Mae's vintage faux pearl necklace and another pearl necklace live in this sweet silver dish, along with a couple purse sized perfumes that came with my full size bottles. Gifts from my kids...:)

A couple vintage earrings sit beneath this little glass cloche.

Another recent addition to our room was a new 3 inch memory foam topper. It was recommended by Suzan from Simply Vintageous. I had been wanting to try one but finally made up my mind to do it after her good review and all the other good reviews on Amazon. I also finally put our new duvet cover on as well. I ordered it from Overstock last year and had never put it on the bed. I ordered new 700 thread count sheets too, so it feels like we are sleeping on a cloud now!

I love the colors in the duvet....shades of grey, white, and a pale mustard yellow color. I have to buy two new pillows for the shams and they will go in the back behind the grey pillows. I have plans to make a headboard as well since we haven't had one since we downsized from a king to a queen a couple years ago.

I am loving the changes so far. It was definitely needed!

I'll leave you with a few random photos. I love these sweet little flowers. This was taken in the evening. The flowers close up every evening and open again in the morning. This is a wild violet. The leaves remind me of clover.

I came home from work the other day and it was raining. I had to take a picture of the raindrops on the leaves....so pretty!

And, I just love this photo of one of my camellias. It was high up on the bush and when I went to snap the picture, I noticed the sun shining through the trees. I love it!

I will be back soon to share my other yard sale goodies. I hope your week is going well.

Until next time....

Catching Up.....Art Journal

Hello there! I mentioned in yesterday's post that I couldn't believe that I was posting two days in a row during the work week, but this might be a record because I'm back with a third post. :) I have been trying to stay true to my word for this year...diligence. But, sometimes life happens and I fall behind on things. I am trying not to beat myself up when this happens, but strive to get caught up. At work, I have been staying ahead with my lesson plans and various things I prepare each week. This is keeping me from having to bring my work home on the weekends. I have been falling behind on some things at home though, so that has been my focus the past few days....catching up at home. Today I decided to get caught up on my Documented Life Art Journal project. You may remember these pages I shared at the beginning of January.....

Well, those pages were the only ones that I had completed. I had started on some others but had not finished them. Well, that changed today! I completed three more today and that just leaves the one for January 31st. I plan to get it done over the weekend. I'll share the pages I completed tonight.

The challenge for January 10th was to use gesso. I had never used gesso before, so I had to order some from Amazon and wait for it to arrive to do this page, so that's when I fell behind. Anywho, I painted the pages with gesso and let them dry and then I used watercolor paints to complete the pages. The journal prompt was the beginning is always today. I chose to represent this with a moon and sun.

The challenge for January 17th was The Color Wheel and the prompt was a quote by Georgia O'Keefe....
"I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn’t say any other way . . . “
I chose to paint circles, changing colors as I went. I doodles shapes around the grey edges and wrote a few quotes with white a Sharpie paint marker around the circles.

I like how it turned out...:)

The January 24th challenge was writing and the prompt was words with friends. I found an inspiration picture online and used it as a guide. The ladybug holds significance for my best friends and I. Please ignore my goofy back legs....my ladybug looks more like a cricket! LOL!

I found a saying I liked via Pinterest and went with it. I feel like words aren't always necessary with true friendship. Do you know what I mean?

I am no artist, but I have had fun with these challenges. I am happy to be caught up and am hoping to get started on some embroidery this weekend as well. I haven't had a chance to use any of the supplies I ordered and I'm excited to get started. I hope each of you has a beautiful Friday.
Until next time.....

My New Lemon Cypress Trees

I can't believe I'm posting two days in a row in the middle of a work week!
I only worked half a day today. I needed an afternoon of rest to get rid of a nagging headache. Fortunately it went away after a few hours. Just after I arrived home the FedEx van pulled up to deliver a package. Last week I ordered two Lemon Cypress plants to use as decoration in my home and they arrived today. The arrival of these little beauties helped to inspire me to tweak a few vignettes around the house after my headache went away. If you read yesterday's post, then you saw this lantern I received from Decor Steals. For now,  it is hanging in the opening between the living room and dining room.

Here's another shot. I am going to repaint that coral frame on my plank wall. I am having a hard time deciding on a color though! Suggestions?

Another tweak I made was changing the saying on my chalkboard. This one is more suitable for Valentine's Day and it will last for a few weeks after. I also hung that wall pocket planter from the bracket on the other side of the opening.

I love this chalkboard. It was originally a mirror. The mirror remains unharmed. I just turned it around and spray painted the back side with chalkboard paint. I can easily change it back to a mirror at any time.

Now, let me share my new Lemon Cypress plants. I added one to my dining table centerpiece.

I love these little mini trees. They are so cute and the bright green color is so pretty!

I added a few vintage figurines to my centerpiece as well as the new February calendar. I know I have had this same basic vignette going for a while, but tweaking it a little every few days makes it feel fresh and new.

My other little tree ended up in the kitchen for now. These little plants will travel around the house quite frequently I'm sure. I hope they don't grow too fast and I hope they do well indoors!

The last tweak was pretty simple. I rearranged the bottom, center shelf  on my built in bookshelves a little. I also added a cute little garland I bought after Christmas on clearance. It isn't Christmasy at all to me. It is just little ivory colored felt circles strung together. I thought it was cute and it was just a dollar or two. I am still in love with my bookshelves and my handy hubby! If you're a new reader you can click on the link to see the entire wall of bookshelves.

So, those are my simple changes. Have you tweaked anything lately?
Take care and until next time.....
