From Nasty Naugahyde to Beautiful Burlap!

Well....I've been at it again! I found some awesome things today which I'll be sharing over the next couple of days! This morning, my sister, Nancy, Aunt Loretta, and I got up early to go do a little treasure hunting! This is what we saw when we rounded the bend heading out this morning! She stood there for a little while and I was able to snap this photo. Don't know why the road looks all wonky though....weird!

I pulled up after she bolted into the woods and stopped to see if I could still see her. I did see her, and another deer as well! They are obscured by the trees and brush, but you can see their tails and you can see the face of the one on the left side if you look closely. We see deer all the time....such beautiful creatures!

So, you might be wondering about that post title! Here's what it's all about! This is one of the things I bought this morning! I wanted a nice size footstool for my two chairs in the library. I had found a small one recently and was planning to redo it, but it was really low and I like to prop my feet up. Well, I found this one today....and the best part is it was only $4! It was in excellent condition and very sturdy. It can be used as a ottoman, a coffee table, or a bench! I fell in love...:) I did not however fall in love with the lovely dingy, white naugahyde it was covered in! I knew it would be a breeze to recover though, so I quickly snatched it up before my sister spotted it! ;)

Here is the before picture...that is burlap on the back corner I had started recovering it and then realized I forgot the before picture! I'm good at that...:)

Here is during....looking much better!

And here is after! I.....am.....in.....love! What do you think? I was fortunate to find this chenille fringe (for $5) at the same place I got the ottoman. There was around 30-35 feet of it...and it was brand new! I still have a lot left for another project or two!

I added my beadboard tray to the top complete with a few treasures. I got the sweet little silver trinket box at the same sale for $1 today.  I added one of the pieces of tatting I bought for a quarter after work Friday, a lantern I bought a few weeks ago, a sweet little sugar bowl from last weekend's haul, and one of my vintage crystal and silver coasters. Inside the lantern is my wedding cake topper! It's definitely vintage....we celebrate our 25th later this year!

I also added the Flea Market Weddings magazine I recently bought. My daughter has decided she wants a vintage theme wedding when she marries one day and this magazine has some great ideas in it!

Here are a couple different views of my tiny library complete with my adorable new ottoman...:)

Please let me know what you think! I am so pleased with how it turned out and it has inspired me to finish some of the other projects I have started or have been meaning to start! The cost breakdown for this project is as follows:

Ottoman: $4
Chenille Fringe: approx $2
Burlap: already had....so free

Total cost.....$6!

Can't beat that...:)

  1. I really must come to your part of the world to go to the flea markets as you seem to have a lot more gorgeous stuff there than here! I love the deer looking solitary at the side of the road, such beautiful creatures. Enjoy the rest of your weekend. Chel x

    1. We do seem to have a lot of great stuff around here! I am also fortunate to live just down the road from a little lady who has a yard sale house. It is an old family home that wasn't being used so she turned it into a place to house treasures to sell! She goes to estate sales and purchases and then opens her house on weekends when the weather is pretty! Enjoy the rest of your weekend as well...:) Vicky

  6. The road is wonky because you have taken the road less traveled by. You beat your sister to the bargain!?! Vicky, you are a champion treasure hunter. Your library is coming together nicely - love the fringed burlap footstool. I can picture you there with your feet up grading papers!
