Reflecting

Hello and happy Wednesday friends!
Today's post is all about reflecting...in more than one sense!
This week is going by quickly and tomorrow is my last day of work since I am taking off Friday to attend my niece Taylor's college graduation. She is graduating with her Associate of Arts degree on Friday and she graduates high school at the end of May. Such a blessing to be able to earn an AA degree for free these days while you are in high school. She's off to the University of Florida in the fall and I am super proud of this beautiful young lady! Taylor was the first baby I ever saw being born and her delivery was pretty frightening. I won't share the details, but I did not think she was alive when she was born..so scary. But...as you can see, she lived and is an amazing girl. So hard to believe that was almost 18 years ago...she graduates two days before her birthday from the same college her mom graduated nursing school from the day before she was born.
:)

Her dad took her senior pictures...aren't they awesome?

I have two mirror makeovers to share today as well. First up is this mirror that used to hang on my living room wall. It was a $1 thrifty find given to me by my sister, Nancy (Taylor's mama). She just knew I would love it! It used to be a clock, but I added a mirror and jewels to the front instead.

I gave it a new paint job and it is now hanging in my bedroom.

I love the new color! The design around the edges reminds me of a heart...love it!

What do you think?

Next up is this gold mirror I bought a couple months ago. I fell in love with the ornate details and I love the oval shape that frames the mirror.

It took the place of the mirror I just shared that moved to my bedroom and left an empty spot on the living room wall. Can't have that...lol! Anywho, I like it in aqua..but I don't love it and will most likely redo it again soon.

I sanded it a bit to give it some dimension but am still not thrilled with it.
I don't know why...:( I also don't like the cracks that showed up when I painted it. I did not see them before I painted it...weird!

Do you think some distressing ink might help it? That thought just popped in my head.
I think I need to try that....I'll be right back.
OK...I'm back! That was a 5 minute fix and I like it better now.

It will do for a while and then I will give it another makeover!
What do you think? You can be honest...it won't hurt my feelings a bit!

That's it for today folks! I am excited that I have had time to blog every evening this week. My boss has let us leave right after the students every day this week due to testing. She knows how stressful it is on us and helps us out by letting us leave early. I normally don't leave until close to 4 (even though we can leave at 3:15) or even later some days, so leaving at 2:40 has been sweet! Tomorrow is our last day of testing and I am so proud of my kiddos! They are doing great. It is amazing to watch the transformation of these little sweeties. Many of them didn't attend preschool and had never been exposed to the alphabet and numbers and some of those same kiddos are now reading! Almost all of my students are reading now....not just sounding out words, but actually reading! Insert big smile here...:) It amazes me what they are capable of!

OK...sorry for rambling. I'm finished now...:)
Hope you have a blessed Thursday friends.

Until next time.....

  1. Good Evening Vicky! Sorry I haven't been by in a while. I have been very sick due to complications from a root canal. I am on the mend now, but it has been a long couple of weeks.

Your niece is very pretty and those pictures are really nice. How exciting for her to be going off to college :)

I love that clock and that mirror.. I love the colors as well. I really like the design of that mirror, very sharp. I bet it would be really cool if you painted it a barn red and then distressed it. I love Red! I never get tired of reading your posts. You are so inspiring! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for sharing.

Have a wonderful day and Congrats to your niece!

    Blessings,
    Amy

  2. Your niece is quite beautiful. Excellent senior pictures!
You did a great job on the mirror with hearts. Yes I could see the hearts. :-)
After the distressing you placed on the other project it made a huge difference. You are too funny!
Have a great rest of the week!
    Blessings, Debbie

  3. Hi Vicky! Congrats to your beautiful niece, Taylor. It is so cool to be able to get college credits while in high school!
Love your mirrors...the aging did help the last one. I think I like the aqua color!

  4. Wow! Both of those mirrors are gorgeous! Your creativity never ceases to amaze me. Love the statement that the large one makes and the soft color of the aqua one.

  5. Your niece is beautiful! Congratulations to her - she is quite the young lady :)

Love your paint job! I wish I was brave like you and painted items, but I must confess that I am not much of a painter when it comes to crafts. . .not sure why :)

Love and hugs to you! And Happy May, my friend!

  7. Congrats to Taylor for the double degrees! the aqua mirror needed the distressing - I like it but would probably distress it more. i have that metal clock - it was supposed to go to the store but I could not get it to work. A mirror, i could turn it into a mirror. Thanks for the idea.

I use to look back with wonder at all the objectives my students mastered in nine months. It is such a great gift to be a part of their learning.
