Two Thrifty Makeovers...A TV Tray & an Ironing Board

Happy Tuesday everyone! I mentioned last week that I picked up an item from Goodwill that I would share soon. Well, I am here to share it now! It's nothing too exciting, but I got this really nice TV tray for $1.99. I actually needed one of these and knew I couldn't beat this deal. There was nothing wrong with  the tray and I could have left it as it was, but I thought I needed a little something.
Here it is before.

And here it is after!
A little spray paint makes such a big difference. I used some chevron patterned contact paper to create the design. Much easier than measuring and taping it off. I decided to use two colors for more interest. I like the way it turned out!

I decided to leave some of the natural wood so I taped off a strip around the base and left the legs wood too.

Here is another before and after with the legs. What do you think?
I think it's super cute for $1.99!

Now...the other little before and after I am sharing is one of my projects that I have had sitting in the craft room for about 10 months! Yes...sometimes I am a procrastinator! And, sometimes I just forget I have it or don't know exactly what I want to do with a piece. That was the case with the little ironing board you see below. I originally had a plan to cover it with a pretty fabric and stencil a quote on it and hang it in the laundry room. Well, I tried it and didn't like it...at all! So, it sat in the craft room for months until I knew what I wanted to do with it.

I had the hubby add a shelf to it (just like we did with my minty mirror makeover) and then I sprayed it with chalkboard paint.

And, then I hung it on the wall in my laundry room. I added a fun little saying on it that will be changed out occasionally. My next one will say....The Laundry Room....LOADS of Fun! Insert sarcasm here...laundry is not my favorite chore!

I added a few items I shopped the house for and have a sweet little spring vignette in the laundry room.

I'm so not an artist (although my kinders think I am), but I drew a little clothesline at the top just for fun. Yeah...my pants legs are not even but I didn't fix it...lol!

So, that's the end of my projects for now. I am hoping to knock out a couple more over the weekend. I have several things that need to be completed so I can free up some space in the craft room closet.
I am only two days into the work week and am so exhausted. Kindergarten takes so much energy! I am already looking forward to the weekend...:) Hope your week is going well and thanks so much for stopping by!

I'm joining Diann from The Thrifty Groove and Linda from A La Carte for Thrifty Things Friday
Hop on over and check out all the thrifty link-ups!
Until next time.....

  3. Love the little ironing board make over. How cute is that! Again the shelf is perfect and I love your 'perfect imperfections' in the drawing! I may just have to try to copy this one!! As for the tray, that too is so cute. I just found one for Tiger to use at my house and we may have to 'decorate' it just for him now.

  6. Two great projects Vicky. You were very creative with both of them. While I love the painting on the little table and the fact that you taped off to reveal some of the natural wood, I think the ironing board is my favorite! The little vignette is adorable!

  9. Two fun ideas that turned out great. Sometimes I have things sitting for projects for so long, I just donate them back, lol. It may have taken you awhile, but you got it done.

Can't even imagine how exhausted you must be after a day with a kindergarten class. I would need a big glass of wine, lol.

  12. When I taught, I called this time of year the march of the mad monkeys! Clever idea of using the chevron contact paper to make the design. Love the ironing board. Both the dogs and the cats love wash day. They like to smell the clean laundry coming out of the dryer - especially their blankets - all warm and snuggly.

  14. I love your thrifty projects. I have my Grandma Dorothy's old wooden ironing board and also her iron. I think many times about redoing the ironing board and using it as a display. I guess my Grandma would appreciate it; she really believed in ironing(everything)..lol..when I got married and started house keeping she gave me an iron and an ironing board.

Thanks for sharing your projects. I think that's what makes thrifting so special is the memories and feeling that it brings in return.
