A Peek at My Week...New Camera Edition!

Well, hello there! I'm so happy you stopped by for a visit. I have been getting some much needed rest this week (my first week of summer break) and I have been pretty productive too! I have been working on a Professional Development ESE course online for work and that has been taking about three hours of my day each evening. I am over half finished with it though so that's good news. I have been sewing, playing with my new camera, piddling around the house, counting calories, and walking in the evenings. I am determined to have a fun, healthy, and productive summer!

Today I had to go buy groceries, so of course, I ran by the Hospice Attic thrift while I was out. I am getting much better about not buying too much junk when I go which is a good thing. I was so tempted by this mid century piece though. It would be awesome in my craft room but I didn't room to haul it home. It was an absolute steal at $7! I was so tempted to pay for it and ask them to hold it, but I didn't. I don't need another project right now. We are about to start building our porch and it's going to be a BIG project....36 X 10 feet and screened in. I can't wait!

All I bought was a couple little shelves for my classroom which I didn't photograph. I will later this summer after I give them a makeover. I also bought these adorable little containers to use for Skittles or some other treat in my classroom. They were still sealed in plastic and $0.49 per pack so I got all four for under $1. :) I bought one thing for home which you will see in a bit.

Earlier this week my new camera was delivered. I am loving it! I have a LOT to learn but I have faith in myself and I can do it. It came with two lenses, a camera bag, spider tripod, and about a dozen other odds and ends, including an SD card.

I bought some bias tape and fabric at Wal Mart while I was out and this became my subject to shoot earlier. I am using up lots of scraps and small pieces of fabric and am sewing up some buntings. I love them and am making several to change out on my new porch for the seasons.

I fell in love with the fabric on top and found two others to coordinate with it to make a fall bunting.

I had to have these too...love the cherries and the birds. The one in the center has plates all over it. So pretty!

Here is the one thing I bought for home at the thrift. A pedestal milk glass dish. It is different than any others I have. It was $1.98. It is kind of a dreary day today and the sun has been playing hide and seek since our rain this morning but I like this picture and think it turned out really pretty.

Again, just playing with the new camera.

It takes such clear photos.

I have been wanting a DSLR camera so I could get the blurry background that I love.

Bashful is not a willing subject...he kept looking away.

Surprisingly though, Sadie looked right at the camera and I got several shots of her. She probably doesn't realize what it is...yet!

Yesterday I was in the mood to create, so that's when I decided to raid my scrap basket and fabric stash to cut some triangles for buntings.

My desk is covered in various fabrics I pulled out for a couple of upcoming projects. A quilt for my daughter, Miranda to take to Prague with her, and something for my classroom.

Here are dozens of triangles waiting for me to sew them.

And here are a few I stitched up yesterday. I am hoping to get back in the craft room in a bit to sew some more. I can't wait to get one completed. This one will be in pinks and blues.

I would like to share a link to my friend Teresa's blog, Magazine Your Home. Some of you may already know her and know about the cancer her dear husband, Toby is battling. This is a plea for help for this sweet, fellow blogger. They can really use it right now. Please go visit her and if possible, make a donation. Even small donations add up and will help. I'll let you go read for yourself and if you click on the GoFundMe link, you can learn more about the terrible cancer that Toby is battling. Prayers for Toby and Teresa and for each of you. As always thanks for stopping by!

Until next time...

  3. You passed on a $7 piece of MCM furniture!?! I am going to take your thrifting license away. I would have had to drag someone off the street and make them buy it. Love your banners. I still have the 2014 banner you made for me. I use parts of it in different ways.

  5. Unreal that any thrift would even sell that for $7. It won't be there long, very cool and retro. How great you sew and can make buntings in lots of themes and color schemes. Sweet fabric. Enjoy your new camera. Sorry about your friend's hubby, so difficult.

  6. Looks like you're enjoying yourself already! Love those fabrics-really like the one with the little birds on it. $7? Did I read that right? What was wrong with it? LOL.

I, too, read Teresa's blog. Just heart wrenching. I've been praying for them...need to go check out the latest and see what else I can do to help.
