A Wedding, a Chalkboard, & a Song!

Hello! I hope this finds you enjoying a restful Sunday afternoon. I have been having one for sure. I feel like this is the first time I have actually had any real down time in weeks! If you came by yesterday and read my thrifty finds post, you may remember me saying I had a wedding to attend last night.Well, I didn't really intend to make a blog post from the wedding, but when I got there and saw what an awesome job my cousin did with the decorating, I had to share! This wedding has Pinterest all over it!

First up is the cake!
I love how it is displayed on a slab of cypress wood. The whole thing sits atop a square of burlap.

A closer view....isn't it precious?

Check out the grooms' cake. The pocket knives look so real! Around these parts, hunting and fishing are a BIG deal and it's almost unheard of to not carry a pocket knife around all the time. I realize this may be foreign to some of you, but I assure you it is quite common where I live. My husband and I don't hunt, but my son does. My hubby does like to fish though....me, I'd rather read a book!

Anywho, back to the post! This stand was really cool holding bottles of some type of juice.

This display was really pretty....so simple and so inexpensive!

But...such a big impact!

The reception was held in the local school board office which used to be the cafeteria for the old Old Town Elementary before the new school was built. That's where I teach! Anyway, that's why you see the long desk and chairs in the background. That's where the school board members sit at meetings. It worked out nicely for the wedding party too. Check out the redneck wine glasses.....blue ball jars and red solo cups glued to crystal candle sticks. Click on the picture to enlarge.

This was the centerpiece at my table. I love the black and white photos in mason jars.

Loved this idea! A s'mores bar. Yum!!!

The ceremony took place outdoors. Thank the good Lord the rain held off! Hay bales were the seating!

The little flower girl was so cute in her boots carrying the rose petals in a cowboy hat.

The food was catered by a local and was absolutely delish!

Washtubs held these huge bottles of orange & cream, root beer, cream & caramel, cokes, lemonades, and bottled waters. I chose the orange & cream...yum! I still have half of it in the fridge.

I loved their "guest book". This little sign gave directions.

And here it is. Won't this look awesome framed and hanging in their house for years to come!
I love it...:)

The card box was really cute too.
I pray that God will bless this sweet young couple as they begin their life as husband and wife!

If you did visit yesterday, you may also remember the little red chalkboard with the abc's on it that I got for a quarter at a yard sale. I had mentioned that I wanted to tape off a place on the inside to paint a black chalkboard. I also wanted to paint a black border around the outer edge. Here it is all taped up.

And....all painted!

I used this paint I ordered from Amazon a while back. I have used it for a couple projects now and still have some left for another project...:)

So, here it is before.....

And here it is after. Sorry, I forgot a before picture before I wrote on it! I get a little excited sometimes and forget! What do you think? I definitely like it better now!

You might remember me saying I wanted to use it as a wreath for my classroom hall door. Well, since I am not at school today, I hung it on my door at home so you could see what it will look like as a wreath. Not too shabby for $0.25 if I do say so myself!

And just because I can't get enough of this song lately....I leave you with this.
I urge you to listen to it.....these words are truth....:)

Until next time.....

  1. My faith was challenged by my lousy attitude this afternoon. I have tears rolling down my cheeks - Oh, how I needed this song to remind me. Thank you, Vicky. I will rest well now.

  4. Wow, that wedding looks beautiful! I love the new trend of "country" weddings with hay bales and farm type stuff. The cake looks beautiful, unique cakes are so much more fun than the traditional white wedding cakes I think! :o) And I love that little chalkboard wreath, so cute! :o)

  8. I have only been to Miami so I have to say that I don't really think of Florida as a hunting state. Where does everyone hunt?

I love that the wedding showed the personalities and interests of the bride and groom.

  11. Aren't the simple weddings the best. They are far more personal and less 'blingy'. I love the hay bales and the cakes, they sound like a loving and humble couple. The best of luck to them both. Your chalk board is brilliant! Well done my lovely. xx
