Five On Friday from my iPhone!

I'm running a little late, but I wanted to join Amy for this week's Five On Friday. Hop over there and visit her! This week was the busiest one of my summer break so far. I was on the go the first three days and then trying to play catch up on everything yesterday. Let me share what I've been up to.

Monday, I went and picked my son up from his house and took him to the Dr. We had a nice day after the appointment. i took him to lunch and we got a dessert after to take home. I chose a cookie dough cupcake and he chose Reese's Cup. Yummy! After lunch, I ran into Hobby Lobby real quick and then took Dakota back home. After I dropped him off, I ran to a couple thrift stores and only bought one thing at each one. I'll point them out in a photo below.

When I got home, I checked my mail and had some surprise happy mail form my sweet blog friend Tania. She blogs over at Little Vintage Cottage...be sure to visit her! Anywho, she had shared a couple weeks ago that she scored a whole box of vintage books for free. One of the books was A Christmas Carol. I mentioned in a comment that I had started collecting this book and she surprised me and sent it to me! I was so excited! Thanks again Tania! The page with the copyright and day is missing but I was able to find one like it on eBay by searching for the illustrators. Apparently this book is circa 1900! How cool to think about someone holding this book in their hands and reading it over 100 years ago. It amazes me...:) It now sits proudly on my bookcase with the others. The little bowl is a favorite find from a few years ago. It has two scenes on it and says Dickens Days. I love it!

Tuesday, I went to Jacksonville with a couple of my teacher friends from work. We went to a teacher supply store called School Aids. I found some super cute stuff to decorate my classroom. We ate a nice lunch at Applebee's and then went to hobby Lobby.....yes, I went twice in one week! I am putting myself on a pretty strict NO BUY JULY! LOL!

I have recently become addicted to planners. You know, the kind with calendars for the month and week as well as places to make lists and keep up with life in general. Well, it is a big thing right now and the reason I fell in love with it is simple. It is a combination of many things I have always loved to do. I love being organized, writing things down, making lists, using stickers, washi tape, and pretty stationery, and decorating. I had to start doing this! Here's my July layout. So much fun!

This led me to redoing my desk area. I wanted to make room for my new planner accessories, so I added a couple small shelf units I had picked up last month for my classroom to the side and gave it an "L" shape. It's hard to tell in this picture, but I'll share some more soon. I also started a new gallery wall above the desk. The two thrift store finds are the shelf on the desk which I believe used to be on a twin bed. The other thing is the yellow and pink floral artwork with the white frame. It is hand painted watercolor. The frame was yellow but I painted it to make the flowers pop. It was only $0.99. The shelf is quite large and solid wood. It was $9.99. I am enjoying this new set up!

Next week promises to be a quiet one. Not too much going on which is nice. I have several things that need to be started and/or finished! Have a lovely weekend and Happy 4th of July to all my American friends!
Be safe and.....

  1. Whew! You certainly have been super busy Vicky. (I hope Dakota is ok)

I am an avid user of planners but I haven't gotten into decorating one, it sounds like fun.

You'll be so excited to go back into the classroom with the new additions.

    Happy 4th!

  2. Hi Vicky, what an interesting post. I read it and then went back and blew up the photos to take a closer look. I love what you are doing with your planner and the way you put your desk space together is fab. It takes pure genius to gather so many items together on shelves and make them all look perfect. I'm afraid that my shelves look a bit messy . . . if you lived closer I would beg for your help:)
Good luck on your No Buy July . . .let us know if it works, LOL.
    Happy 4th of July!
    Connie :)

  5. Busy times, indeed, made better by thrifting and Hobby Lobby (love that place). Your desk arrangement looks great. And I love the idea of the planner. Every year I say I will keep a journal of sorts. Every time I travel I say I will do a travel diary. But I never keep it up. Try and try again. Have a great weekend. Tammy

  6. What a wonderful friend to be gifted with the amazing book, I love thinking about who may have leafed through the pages of old books so many years ago.

  8. What a wonderful gift from your blogger friend! I love seeing your collection of A Christmas Carol books! I read it to our grandson (and it was my first time to read the book....I had only ever seen the movie versions before that) Christmas before last. What an exquisite piece of writing! I loved it, and so did our grandson who was 11 at the time.

  14. I love your desk set up, it all looks so cheery and colorful. Seeing it reminded me that I have one of those little plastic desk organizers waiting for a redo (yours are aqua and gold I think). More plastic to paint!!

I'm so glad you like the book and that you were able to find out the date!

    Have a happy 4th!

    Tania

  19. Ooh, I do love a planner...writing lists...diarising...I'm totally with you there. And what a lovely idea to collect copies of A Christmas Carol. I love that story. The 1984 film of the book with George C. Scott was made near here and Ebeneezer Scrooge's headstone was left in the churchyard afterwards, it's still there. x
