Sunday afternoon has arrived once again. Today it brought with it a terrible migraine for me. I always forget how bad headaches are until I have another one. Fortunately I don't have them a lot! The weekend has been lovely though. Not a lot going on,...a trip to buy groceries and eat a Mexican supper on Friday night with the hubby and a lazy Saturday with the exception of going to Gainesville with my sister to help my nieces get settled in their new apartment.
Today has been a different kind of day though...it started with that terrible headache that stayed for hours and hours. Not too long after I got up this morning, my sister called to tell me that a local teen was killed in a car accident early this morning. Last night was our prom. This boy was a senior. He would have been graduating in two weeks. I know the family and am absolutely heartbroken for them. His mom had cancer of the larynx a year or two ago and had to have her voice box removed. She is still battling cancer. I am sad beyond words for this family. I cannot imagine the pain and anguish they must be feeling. All I can do is pray for them and I have been all throughout the day. If you are a praying person, I know your prayers would be appreciated too.
After my headache subsided for the most part, I decided to drive down to my Aunt Loretta's house to pick up a piece of fabric from her. Mama rode with me. My aunt wasn't home, so I took Mama back home and got out to pick some cucumbers. I snapped a few photos of her veggies to share. I love seeing veggies and fruit on the vines and bushes. They are so pretty to me.
Check out this gorgeous magnolia bloom Mama had in a mason jar in her kitchen. She picked it from my uncle's tree yesterday. I love these blooms.
They are huge and have the freshest lemony scent. Look how pretty the leaves are...they look waxed but they're not.
I got a sprig of basil for a recipe I am making later while I was there. It smells so good and is so pretty. I decided to stick it in a vase for a bit.
Here are my cucumbers....yummy! I know what I'll be taking for lunch this week. I love cucumbers and tomatoes together. I bought a pack of my favorite Campari tomatoes at Publix Friday night. These are so good! I've been trying to eat low carb, so those almonds are a tasty snack when I want something to munch on.
I also picked some fresh gardenias while I was visiting with my mom. I have two bouquets and they are giving the house a heavenly sweet smell.
Yesterday, my sister sent me a text with photos of my Sadie rolling in the grass at her house next door. I couldn't resist sharing one. I love this big fur baby! She's so stinkin' sweet.
I hope you all had a lovely weekend my friends. I am busily closing out this school year. I am taking off this Friday and am off Monday for Memorial Day so I have a 4-day weekend to look forward to. So, that means I only have 12 student contact days left and a short day left after that to close up my classroom and attend the district luncheon to kick off summer. My last day of work just happens to be my birthday too! The summer off is a great gift isn't it? I have lots of plans for the summer as usual and hope to accomplish the majority of them. I am in need of this time off to refresh and renew. I hope you all have a wonderful week!
Until next time.....
Aww I hope the headache went away. Thanks for the update. I like the photos of the veggies and flowers. Sadie is so adorable. Take care and have an a nice week.

I'm so sorry to hear about the tragic loss of a young life, I can't even imagine the sorrow the family is going through. Thanks for sharing your weekend adventures. Hope you're feeling 100% soon.
ReplyDeleteUgh, hate starting the day with a headache. Hope it's all gone now. Yum, those veggies look good! And the magnolias are just stunning!
ReplyDeleteThat poor family. How devastating for the. I am praying for their comfort and peace. How do you get over the list of your child though?
Hope you have a good week. Enjoy your long weekend ( I get those four days at the farm! Whoop!)
I love fresh veggies too and miss having a small garden.I will just shop at the farmers market. I threw out my fresh flowers today. I had some lilacs, they smell so sweet but don't last long inside. Happy almost end of the school year..........I don't know who is more excited, the teachers or students. :-)
ReplyDeleteI have a difficult time understanding bad things happening to good people.
ReplyDeleteThis past year seemed to fly by. I can't believe it is nearly the end of the school year. I imagine that you are looking forward to it. Is this going to be a BIG birthday?
I used to have migraines but as I grew older they seemed to disappear. So sad and prayers for the young life taken. It happens here about every year. I would have to slice the fresh cukes and soak them in apple cider vinegar for a delicious snack.
ReplyDeleteOh Vicky, I am so sorry you had headache pain. I hope you are feeling much better.
ReplyDeleteLove the picture of Sadie, what a precious girl.
Your pictures are frame worthy, the veges would look fantastic hanging in your new kitchen.
That's so sad and very, very tragic. My heart aches for his family. They've been through so much.
ReplyDeleteI've only had migraines about three times in my life, and I can tell you if I had one today there's no way I'd ever be able to do what you did Vicky! They're so debilitating.

We lost two of our students this year in one of the school I work in. I know how heartbreaking it is when such a young life is taken. Thinking of you and his family.
ReplyDeleteSuch lovely blooms! So sorry about the tragedy and am praying for the family.
ReplyDeleteMigraines are the worst. I am a sufferer too but lucky I haven't had one in a couple of months. They can wreck a whole day, can't they? Your garden is off to a lovely start. You'll be harvesting before you know it!!
ReplyDeleteAw, look at your cute Sadie! A migraine knocks you back for sure, glad you were well enough to get out and enjoy the lovely flowers and veggies. Sending up prayers for that family, so tragic.
ReplyDeleteUghhhh headaches........they certainly are the worst and I hope you feel better. Love the veggies and the pretty blooms. I work for a special education coop. and I get at least July off. Yes it's a blessing to relax and renew the spirit, especially after this year. Have a wonderful week Vicky. Prayers to the family of that boy, so tragic.
ReplyDeleteHi Vicky, I am so sorry to hear about your headaches and about this young man's death. I have already started praying for his family. Your growing season is so far ahead of ours, My cucumbers are still seeds under the ground. I'm hoping that this morning's walk through the garden will revel them poking their little heads out, so that I know they are growing:) I'm sure that this time of year has you burning your candle at both ends, so hopefully when your summer vacation starts, you will have lots of time to relax.
ReplyDeleteSorry you had to start your Sunday with a migraine. Those suck... I get them every month and have a prescription. So sad to hear about the boy who was killed, that's sad no matter who it is but seems so much worse when it's a young person with their whole lives ahead of them :o( Man, I wish I could have summers off!

So much on your plate right now! I've had mine overflow a bit this week. Today I put Mom in the hospital with low blood pressure and low blood count. She is bleeding internally somewhere and they need to find it. I'm exhausted but hanging in there. Sending you hugs and I know you will look forward to some time off.
ReplyDeletehugs,
Linda
Hello Vicky, You are at the busy, time for teachers. But really when is it not busy ?? LOL
ReplyDeleteI do think those leaves on those flowers do look a bit like fake ones. I love flowers in all sizes and colors, but when they smell wonderful is so nice. I do hope you finish well and get to enjoy your new kitchen updates and family this summer. Did this last year go fast or what?
Thinking of you, Hugs, Roxy
So sorry to hear of your migraine! I get them too and like you, I just keep going when the worst of it is over. Fresh gardenias in your home? What a treat!
ReplyDeleteHello dearest Vicky... How lovely it is to visit you blog again! I have missed a few posts lately as I have been quite busy sewing! *smiles*
ReplyDeleteOh, how heart breaking for that poor family to lose their son...and to be battling cancer at the same time too. I will most certainly be praying for them... Their pain and grief must be beyond anything I could imagine...
I loved all the pretty flowers and veggies you shared in this post! And what a cutie Sadie is! I love how dogs enjoy a good roll:)
