Hello friends! I have been absent from the blog for several days and am missing it so much! I have been visiting your though at night after I collapse into bed, but haven't been commenting like I normally do because I have been short on time. I hope to visit later and maybe even leave a comment! I do hope you will forgive me though because as most of you know, I am in the middle of a kitchen remodel. I don't know what I was thinking starting this project at such a busy time at school (Parent conferences and lunch duty this week!) but it's OK. I am loving it! I have dreamed about having a new kitchen for years and am so excited to finally see my dream becoming reality! Unfortunately, there is really nothing exciting to show you on the progress yet. We totally gutted one side, having been moving and adding electrical outlets, and hanging bead board. I am hopeful that we may start putting in cabinets on this side over the weekend....maybe! I have been busy looking for the perfect light fixtures, sink, cabinet handles and so on and am having fun searching. I thought I would share a few things I have in mind if you are interested.
My vision includes,,,white cabinets, black appliances (mine are only a couple years old, so no new stainless for me yet, which is fine with me since I love black and white kitchens), black and glass light fixtures, a single basin kitchen sink, dark butcher block counter top, reclaimed wood shelving and bar top, and brushed nickel hardware to tie in with the rest of the house. I want a modern farmhouse vibe with vintage touches in the decor.
Here are the things I have picked out so far.....
I am on a budget...so I am looking for quality and beauty on a budget. I love a challenge! I am in love with all of these gorgeous light fixtures I found online. One of the first two options will hang over the sink.
The first one is from Home Depot and the second is from Amazon. |
And this one will hang in the center of the room if it works on my vaulted ceiling. I hope it will because I absolutely love it!!! I have been looking for days and while I found several I liked, this one was love at first sight!

While I would love to have a farmhouse style sink, it's not in the budget, and it would not work in the sink base cabinet I have, so I am going with stainless. I have had stainless for years and really like it. I am switching from a double to a single basin since I will have a dishwasher for the first time ever! I want a single basin to wash large items in, like cookie sheets, etc. I haven't picked out the exact one I want yet, but it will be similar to this one from Amazon.
I am undecided about my faucet. I love the vintage looking ones, but I would also like a touch free faucet. They are actually more affordable that the vintage look believe it or not. I am still researching this though!

I am getting my counter top from Ikea. I have had laminate butcher block forever and have always loved the look of the real stuff. Ikea has solid Oak butcher block that can be sanded down and refinished in the dark color I want, although it is a lot of extra work.
They also have a butcher block veneer over particle board which is real butcher block, only thinner. It comes in the dark walnut color I want, so I am leaning toward this option.
Here are the knobs and pulls I am planning to order.,,,clean and simple.

I think I am most excited about my open shelving and raised bar top pieces though. I have found some old lumber that belonged to my grandpa up at his and my Granny Willie Mae's old homestead. My Aunt Loretta lives there now and she said I could come look around for some old wood. I found a piece that I believe will be perfect for my raised bar top and am so excited about it! It has been up in the rafters of the old barn for years and I'm sure the last hands to touch it would have been my grandpa's...:) This means the world to me! There are also multiple options for my shelves as well. I don't have any pictures to share yet, but I will soon.
What do you think of my vision? I know there are lots of different finishes and a mix of styles, but I love it. It may sound silly, but I want a kitchen that looks like it has been around for a while. I don't want everything to perfectly matched. That's not my style. I hope you are having a lovely week. I have two down and just two to go. Thursday is my late night as we choose to dedicate an evening to conferences so we can be off the next day. I have been conferencing over the past couple of weeks so I won't have any on Thursday and can get my room all spic and span before I leave for 10 days.

Have a blessed and beautiful Wednesday my friends.
Until next time.....
Vicky, your kitchen is going to be awesome! Enjoy your spring break!

Chucks and I were discussing what to tear out and what to leave in our kitchen. We will have to get someone to do it. We are past doing it ourselves. As a couple who both have frozen shoulders (one each!) We have been replacing our fixtures to pendants for ease in changing out the bulbs. I love the ones you have chosen and applaud the effort you are putting in to make the kitchen Vicky style. That is most important.
ReplyDeleteHello Vicky! Oh! I've missed you dearly and I'm so very happy to read your lovely again and catch up on what you've doing! I think your kitchen is going to be fabulous - you have such an eye for creative touches and I look forward to seeing the end result! How exciting for you!
ReplyDeleteNow, do enjoy your spring break, dear Vicky! Sending lots of love and hugs to you!

I am excited to see your kitchen dreams coming together! It looks like you have a vision, and it will be awesome Vicky!
ReplyDeleteYou had me at "open shelving".
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see how all of those wonderful choices will look. Happy Spring Break!
ReplyDeleteLoving the details here. Especially the light fixtures. Have fun Vicky! It's going to be a beautiful kitchen!
ReplyDeleteVicky,
ReplyDeleteI love those pendant lights. I'd be hard pressed to choose a favorite! I have black appliances in my city kitchen - I like them better than stainless. They hide finger prints, lol. I can't wait to see the open shelving and bar top. It will be so special to have the wood from your grandparents' place - I can't wait to see how it turns out! Your kitchen is going to be wonderful. :-) I know you're ready for for the break. I'm thinking of going up to the farm for the week so I can finish my door.
Blessings,
Cecilia
Your vision is very much like my kitchen now. Well, as far as the black and white goes. White cabinets, black mirror backsplash, stainless appliances...
ReplyDeleteI love the light fixtures and butcher block! I am so excited for you :)
I think it's going to look so beautiful Vicky! I love all of it and I can't wait to see it start to take shape!

I love what you picked out Vicky! I know it's easier said then done, but just take it day by day. Can't wait to see your beautiful, new kitchen!
ReplyDeleteWhat do I think? Holy quap Vicky!! This is so exciting!! I love everything, especially the counters. And don't worry about not getting stainless. I kinda think it's over rated. Can't wait to see the progress :).
ReplyDeleteYou have such great taste, Vicky!! It's just going to look AWESOME when you are all finished! I pray that God gives you the best deals ever! I can't wait to see all the pictures when you are all done.
ReplyDeleteI love the black and white kitchens, I wouldn't do stainless then all you'll see is finger prints!! :)
I hope you have a wonderfully productive Spring Break!
Hugs Friend,
Amy
Wow I'm so excited for you and love what you picked out. I can't wait to see what it will look like. I know it's going to be beautiful. Enjoy the weekend.
ReplyDeleteHugs, Julie
My, you two are so ambitious! I am happy that you will have a brand new kitchen, the black and white should look stunning. Happy Spring Break to you!!!
ReplyDeleteYour kitchen is going to be amazing Vicky! There's absolutely nothing wrong with mixing styles if you love it. Do what works for you and your kitchen. I agree with Doreen... stainless is overrated. I think black appliances will look awesome in your black and white kitchen. You have a big job ahead of you, but I know it will turn out just fabulous!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE that first kitchen light for over the sink Vicky - beautiful
ReplyDeleteAnd you know how I wanted a marble slab in the kitchen for a counter top ? Well more and more I've been thinking of butcher block instead...............so I'm thrilled to know Ikea has the darker color one !
I have to check it out - I know they're amazingly priced.
How exciting that you're remodeling the kitchen - it'll be gorgeous !
xoxo
It's going to be a lot of work, but so worth it! I'll be looking forward to seeing pictures of your progress.
ReplyDeleteI love your vision for the lighting and can't wait to see it all come together my lovely xx
ReplyDeleteThis is a big project but how wonderful when it is done! Looking forward to the big reveal. For myself, I am between loving my kitchen as it is and wanting to replace everything :-)

Hi Vicky, I love your sink choice. I had just gotten a new sink and facet in the house that we sold when we bought this one. It was very much like the one you are looking at. I loved it! It was so wonderful for all the big items. I've had a new range hood and facet out in our well house for almost a year (still in the boxes) waiting for a time when we could re-do our kitchen. I'm only going for sink, facet, range hood, new counter tops and backslash, so hopefully it won't take too long. I'm so looking forward to seeing your kitchen when it is finished. Kitchens are a lot of work . . . prepare for microwave dinners and bathroom dish washing for a while :)
ReplyDeleteKeep Smiling!
Connie :)
