Feeling Fall In the Air and Life Updates

Hello friends and happy fall to you!
I decided to take a few minutes to check in and let you all know I am still alive. LOL!
Most of you probable heard about Hurricane Matthew hitting Florida as well as other states on the east coast. Fortunately for my area, we didn't suffer any major damage. We had some wind and very little rain. Other areas if Florida were not so fortunate. As bad as it was on our east coast though, I feel so bad for Haiti. Those poor folks had nowhere to go and the death rate there is staggering. My prayers are with them.

Due to the hurricane approaching and not truly knowing how bad it would be in my area, school was cancelled Friday, which gave me a 3-day weekend. I had a lazy day Friday and played around with my Heidi Swapp light box that I purchased a few weeks ago. I bought some beautiful clip art on Etsy and designed a fall sign.

Here it is unlit. It was glaring in the photo so I had to turn it off. It adds some fun to my buffet vignette.

I didn't purchase anything to decorate with this year. I just dug out all my stuff from the shed and picked some favorites to use. I love this wooden pumpkin and the Scrabble tiles.

I also love the fall colors with my favorite aqua blue color.

Here's the light box again.

The china cabinet just got some fall foliage and the banner I made a few years ago using tags and grapevine twigs.

I finally used my chalkboard blocks I purchased from the Target dollar spot several weeks ago.

A couple items on the bookcase. I would like to put some fall colored candy in the pumpkin, but I would be too tempted to eat it!

The table centerpiece.

Another candy dish on the bookshelf. Yes this one is empty too.

And here is the entire room. I draped a floral garland around the chandelier above the table to add some more color. I love how it turned out,

I also changed up my kitchen shelves a bit. I added some branches to the milk pitcher and placed a fabric pumpkin beside it. Sorry about the quality of the photos. It was dark when I took these and even when it isn't I don't have good natural light here in the woods. Anywho, I was excited to find a set of saucers and small bowls to match my fall plates and large bowls that I got a couple years ago. I found them at TJ Maxx for $7.99 a set. So, I fibbed when I said I didn't purchase anything new. I forgot about these. I placed a set of vintage glassware beside them that belonged to my hubby's granny. They have orange, yellow, and green bottoms and match perfectly. I thought we might use these dishes more if I left them sitting out, and I can enjoy looking at them as well. They are so pretty and the colors are so vibrant.

And that is all I have today my friends. I do have a couple blog posts planned to share. Hopefully I can carve out time soon. I am happy to report that I am still working out 3 days per week with my trainer and getting stronger every week. My goal this week is to start walking on the days I don't work out now that the weather is cooling off. My workouts are outside and I work up a sweat in this lovely Florida humidity, so I haven't felt like walking and sweating too. I know that's not a very good excuse, but baby steps! I am sad to say I have never been a very active person so the fact that I am working out hard 3 hours a week and loving it is huge for me. I feel so much stronger than I ever have! I am really hoping to get up to North Georgia to see the fall leaves on the trees and go hiking at the end of the month. I have always wanted to do that and never have. Hopefully this is the year! I am excited about and loving life more than ever. I have some good news about my daughter, Miranda too. Not sure if I mentioned it before, but she works for a travel company about an hour away and is loving her job. It is her favorite job yet. She is hoping to move  closer soon. Also, she is dating a very nice guy and they have really hit it off. She is happy and doing well and I am so happy for her! We recently celebrated her 27th birthday and just a few days later, on October 8th, the hubby and I celebrated 28 years of marriage. I am blessed with a wonderful husband and can't imagine life without him.
I hope you have a delightful week!
Until next time.....

  1. I am so glad to know that you did not suffer any damage. Will they require you to make up the day at the end of the school year? We never had to when it was called for a disaster. And, I'm glad you got that extra day.

  2. We survived the hurricane without any damage to our property. Neighbors lost some trees and we were without power for only a couple of days. Ahhh...the sweet sound of generators. I'd forgotten since we haven't had to use one since 2005. We were so blessed not to have taken a direct hit. My prayers are with those in Haiti, Bahamas and the Carolinas.

You fall decor is so festive and pretty. Now that I am settling down after the storm I will put out what little I have.

Congratulations on your fitness achievements. I wish we lived closer and you could drag me along. LOL. I hope you get that hike in Georgia.

And congratulations to Miranda on her new job and new life.

    Hugs!

  3. Hi Vicki! So good to hear from you and get your updates on life and Amanda. So it sounds like her boyfriend from Europe is a thing of the past and that phase of her life is behind her. I'm sure you're happy about that.

I was surprised to hear that you had Friday off but that only gave you a three day weekend. Doesn't your school have Columbus Day off too? It has been a while since I had a kid in school but I think our schools are closed here. Anyway, you made the most of it and took the time to pretty up your abode :).

Good for you for working out now! Pretty soon you might even get addicted to it, and it's not a bad addiction to have. Beats sex, drugs, and rock n roll ;)

  5. Happy Anniversary! I was worried about you during this terrible storm. I have a brother that lives at Lake Placid, they only got rain and wind, but nothing bad. Then I have a brother and sister-in-law who were vacationing at their shared condo in Coco Beach, they had to evacuate and fly home. Back to your blog: I love your decorations, I just can't seem to get in the mood to decorate. I guess that I just don't want to give up on summer quite yet, LOL. That and the fact that all my energy has been going to pulling the garden, winterizing, and fence building. Not many fun things to blog about.
I'm delighted to know that the storm is over and you and your family are safe.

  8. Great to see you post and update us, been thinking about you. I've never seen that light box before, you decorate it? Need to look it up. Pretty vignettes. Love your fall dishes, yes, leave them out so you'll use and enjoy them. Glad your daughter is doing well.

We got tons of rain from that storm, some here got 10 inches. We lost power when a tree toppled taking power lines, but luckily we were fine. So sad to see the folks who really suffered loses.

  11. Yay for still exercising! I started a new program too. Two weeks in and I'm loving it! Good to hear Miranda is doing well. I bet you are glad to have her closer. I love the Fall sign you made and love all the cute touches throughout your home especially the chalkboard blocks from Target. Adorable! I wouldn't be able to have candy in my candy dishes either. Good for you! I'm also relieved to hear y'all are safe. Praying for those affected.

  12. So glad you were safe and didn't get any damage from the storm. How awful that others didn't get so lucky.
Your Fall decorations are pretty! I have mine scattered through the house and have a lovely Autumn candle burning throughout the day.
So glad to read you are working out. All I can say is You GO Girl! I have stairs, so I work out a lot going up and down all day. Lol! I try really hard to walk each day, but that gets hard once it gets colder out. I'm tall and I'm a bit of a clutz, so ya...I try when I can...;)
So happy for Miranda, its nice to have a job you enjoy.
I hope you have a delightful week!
    Hugs, Amy

  14. I'm so glad everything was okay in your neck of the woods! I simply love your Autumn decorations. Everything looks so vintage-y and quaint. I often pull out my old stuff too. It's like pulling out your toys that had been put away when you were a kid. Best wishes for a wonderful week. Be Blessed!
