Hello friends!
It seems like forever since I posted, even though it hasn't been that long. I am so excited to be sharing my new plank wall with you today. If you are a regular reader, then you know that the hubby and I have started renovating our mobile home living and dining rooms. We have gotten a lot done so far, but I couldn't wait to show you our plank wall. Here is a before picture of the wall. We had already removed all the famous mobile home strips from the walls. When they build mobile homes, they use wallpaper coated sheet rock and cover the seams with matching wallpaper coated strips. I picked a really neutral wallpaper over 20 years ago when we purchased the mobile home. I have always hated the ugly strips that covered the seams and have wanted to do something different for years! Well, that time has finally come! You may have noticed the credenza in the picture too. That is my next project....it will hold our TV. I love the shape of it and I think it will look great after I paint it white and use a dark wax to bring out the details. I'll share that project when I get to it.
We used tongue and groove plank paneling to complete this project. The planks are 8 feet long. We applied ours horizontally instead of vertically because I love the look. It was such an easy project. Here is after we had applied several planks.
All the planks are up in this picture...just have to stain it now!
Drumroll please.........
And here it is! I am in LOVE....seriously in love with this wall! We used Minwax Dark Walnut stain and it is just gorgeous! The rest of the walls will be bead board and painted a light color, so this dark wall will really pop! We are putting in another plank wall in the dining room which is around the corner from this wall. You can see a tiny bit of the wall in the photo below. We haven't started on it yet though. Anywho, I could just sit and stare at it all day! Unfortunately that can't happen because we are knee deep in construction and there's no rest for the weary. I am using muscles I forgot I had...LOL! It is so worth it though....:) Of course, we still have to put up the baseboard and crown molding and this was taken before we put the new electrical outlets in, but I wanted to give you a sneak peek!
Give me some feedback...I'd love to hear what you think about our new plank wall!
Have a blessed and beautiful day...:)
Wow, Looks great Vicky.. you guys have been working hard. I know what ya mean about those strips of sticky wallpaper seam covers! We have that too, that is a big reason why I textured the walls a while back - to try to camo/hide those silly seam things. ha. I look forward to seeing more of your reno... Have a great day and don't work toooo hard! :0) -Tina

ReplyDeleteI love it Vicky! You must be super excited. It's like getting a new house.
ReplyDeleteVicky!!! It looks fabulous and yes it's going to really pop with the other light walls surrounding it. My goodness I can't wait to see it all, hurry hurry lol.
ReplyDeleteLove it! It looks great and the stain you picked is marvelous.
ReplyDeleteIt is gorgeous, Vicky! Yay to goodbye wall strips! I can't wait to see how the rest looks. I don't blame you for wanting to just sit and stare!
ReplyDeleteIs beautiful! I know from doing something like this on two ceilings how much work is involved, but it's totally worth it. And just think of the money you can save on a gym membership ;)
ReplyDeleteHi Vicky, wow you and your husband did such a great job on the wall and it's so nice to be handy! I could never do something like that and you save so much money! Looking forward to seeing the TV stand when finished. Good luck with everything.

I can't believe the difference in the room. I like the idea of the other walls being white so that the wood pops!
ReplyDeleteGreat job!
Three words for you: I LOVE IT! Wow... the before and afters don't even give it justice. Wow! I am so happy for you and your hubby. Keep up the good work and I can't wait to see more.
ReplyDeleteAwesome job!!
Hugs and Blessings,
Amy
In houses around here built before 1900, pine plank walls are always in the living areas. Y'all did a great job. Have you thought of hanging a mantel here?
ReplyDeleteIt looks gorgeous! I love the stain choice. I can't wait to see the finished room! I know that is a lot of work, we have a room with three walls of the plank walls, I am going to be painting it or whitewashing it soon, soon, soon. Just another thing on the very long list of things to do around here! Great job! Keep sharing pics, please, so we can see progress!
ReplyDeleteOooh, how beautiful is that wall?! I love it too! I just love renovating and using all those forgotten muscles. It just makes you enjoy and appreciate all of your hard work even more I think! :o)

What a labor of love and so worth the effort. These things take time, but at least you have the wonderful new look you've waited for.
ReplyDeleteWow Vicky!! That wall is amazing!! The stain you chose gives the planks such character. You must be so thrilled with how it turned out. It's just fabulous!
