California Burlap & a Few Finds!

Hello and happy Wednesday! I was on my way home from work a bit early today and was wondering what to blog about tonight and when I opened my mailbox, there was the answer!

Inside this little package was this awesome alphabet burlap sent to my by my sweet blog friend....
I had seen this burlap somewhere on a blog a while back and wanted some really badly! Well, Carol happened to share an adorable burlap bag she made with it and I commented telling her how much I loved it and how I had been dying to find some of this burlap. Well, wouldn't you know, Carol sent me an e-mail asking for my address so she could send me the remainder of her piece! I was so touched that Carol wanted to do that....aren't blog friends the best? Anywho, she must have mailed it right away because it arrived in my mailbox today!  It makes me smile to think that Carol, who has the most amazing collection of hands, folded this pieces of fabric with her hands and lovingly sent it across the country from California to Florida for me to enjoy!
Thank you Carol....you are the sweetest!

Here is the burlap with another piece of chevron burlap that I bought at Wal Mart (of all places) over the weekend.I love it and think they look great together! Now I just need to decide what I am going to make with them!

Here's a close-up of the chevron.

I forgot to share the few thrifty finds I found last weekend as well. I found this beautiful piece of aqua blue gauze fabric at the Hospice thrift for just $1. There is at least 2 1/2 to 3 yards of it!

You can see here how thin it is. It would make pretty curtains I think.

This next photo is my biggest thrift store regret! I spotted this beautiful cranberry colored goblet at the Hospice thrift and got so excited....that is, until I realized it was the only one. I was so sad! I could just picture them in a gorgeous tablescape....but sadly, it was not meant to be. It was only $0.75 as you can see marked on the glass. My regret is not buying it and putting it away in hopes of someday finding more. Oh well....maybe it will still be there when I return!

I got this set of 8 Corelle Christmas salad plates for $4. They are really pretty and I love the muted colors decorating the rim.

Last thing I bought was two books for $1 each. Yep, that's all....I know it's hard to believe!

I did find this adorable decorative washi type tape at Wal Mart for a couple bucks. I thought it was too cute to leave behind! One of these days I'm going to try my hand at making some tags and I think this may come in handy.

Well, that's it friends. It felt good to blog for a while this afternoon. I mentioned earlier that I came home from work a bit early. That was partly due to today being an early release day at school. We normally work until 3:10 on these days, but today was a little different. Today, we had a mock shooter on campus drill. My district secured a grant for this to occur. A team of people from FEMA came into our school after the students went home and acted like they were invading the school. There was gunfire and everything. There was a team of people watching us and timing everything we did when the Code Red was called. It was a very nerve wrecking event for us, even though we knew it was fake. I think all we could think about were the teachers who have actually been faced with this danger and the terror that must have filled them. We didn't know when it would occur, just that it would. Today is also the anniversary of 9-11 and that made it even more difficult. Even though I am glad it is over, I am equally glad we did this. It helped us to see what we did well and also what could be improved  or changed. I pray I never have to respond to a real Code Red, but I feel that I am better prepared if I do.
Sorry that got a little wordy!
I pray each of you have a wonderful evening and until next time.....

  2. Love that burlap and it was so sweet of Carol to send it to you. I love the aqua blue gauze fabric. You know me - I picture it torn into long ribbons and used as garland on a Christmas tree! And that cranberry goblet would have look great with a few silver balls in it. Can you tell? I am ready to just skip fall and go straight to Christmas!
