My Chalk Painted Credenza

Hello and happy weekend friends! If you read my last blog post, then you know the hubby and I are in the middle of renovating our living and dining rooms. You may remember the credenza you see in the photo below. Excuse the sad before photo....as usual, I forgot to take a good before picture.

I bought this piece a couple weeks ago to use as a TV stand when the living room is complete. I fell in love with the shape and size of it. It is the perfect size for a flat screen and the base will hold all of our DVDs. I was looking for something unique for the TV and this fit the bill. The sticker was marked $45, but I asked the lady if she would take $40 and she said she would...:) Made my day!
Here is another before photo...I thought about it after I had started painting the inside...sorry!

Here is one of the doors after I finished painting it. I used my own chalk paint concoction. I love painting with chalk paint...it is so smooth. I liked it but knew I wanted to distress it a little to bring out the details.

Here is one of the doors after I distressed it a bit. Much better!

Up close...I like the quilted harlequin design on the doors.

I decided to cover the inside door panels with some map themed wrapping paper I had on hand. I was going to use grey and white chevron contact paper but unfortunately didn't have enough. I think I like this better anyway.

Here it is with the doors open and covered.

I had planned to paint the hardware, but after I cleaned it up a bit, I thought it looked good and goes with the distressed look I was going for.

Here is the after! I love the way it turned out....exactly like I had pictured it! The hubby and I are going to try to add legs to it. I have them painted and ready to attach, we just have to figure out how to put them on. I'll post a pic if we figure it out. This was a fun little project and didn't take too long to complete.

I had some help as you see in the photo below...:) My 19 year old girl, Sugar was a lot of help. LOL! Sadie was too...she ended up with paint on her face. I need to get a picture of her.

The reno is going great. Still a LOT of work left to do, but we are slowly getting there. I will try to share some photos soon of our progress. I want to thank you all for your sweet comments. I am going to try to answer them all, just haven't had time to do it. You all are awesome! Have a wonderful weekend!

Until next time.....

  3. Oh yah, I like it Vicky! It turned out great! I hope you figure out how to attach legs, it would look great, can you cake a whole underside piece from plywood or something and just kind of set the credenza on it and attach the feet to the plywood?

  5. Love the details on the doors and you highlighted them perfectly. The surprise of the maps lining the doors is a great addition to the piece. Get working - I want to see the whole room. A cute hideaway for Sugar.
